REDIPlus assigns Default values to dialog box fields; a generic set of default values exists for all Symbols, and each Exchange (e.g., ARCA, AMEX, etc.) has a corresponding set of default values and valid fields. The tabs that the Defaults dialog box has varies by dialog box and monitor.
The most common Default tabs are:
Symbol - enables you to modify the existing generic default values for all Symbols and/or create a new set of default values by Symbol/Product Class. Product classes enable you to assign Symbol defaults to a group of symbols. Symbols whose defaults have been assigned individually will not be modified when you configure a corresponding product class, and defaults assigned to an individual symbol will always override defaults configured for a product class; For example, IBM defaults will override <NYSE> defaults.
Exchange - enables you to modify the default values and valid fields assigned to each Exchange.
Commission - enables you to specify the default Commission by Exchange and Account combination.
Some dialog boxes do not have Exchange default values (e.g., Doneaway and Trade Entry dialog boxes).
The following Defaults dialog box tab is available for the Order Entry dialog box, the Montage Monitor, the Quote Monitor, and the Guide monitor:
Exchange/Session - enables you to specify which exchange or ECN will default based on the Exchange Type and the current market session.
The following Defaults dialog box tab is available for the Montage Monitor only:
Display - enables you to determine which Market Makers and/or ECNs appear in the Level 2 Quote bar by Symbol.
By setting default values, you can speed up your processing. For example, if you know that you always want to attribute an order for IBM to a specific account and that you normally order IBM in blocks of 1,000 shares, you can eliminate the need to enter these values each time you place an order by entering the appropriate default values for IBM once. See the see individual dialog box and monitor Modifying Defaults topics for more information.
