News Monitor Functionality

The News Monitor enables you to view news corresponding to a single symbol/source code, multiple symbols/source codes, or all symbols.

To add a symbol or symbols to the News Monitor

You can add a symbol(s) and/or source code(s) to the News Monitor to display all corresponding news stories. There are several ways to complete this task; which method you use depends on whether you want to view news corresponding to a single symbol or source code, or multiple symbols/source codes, and whether you want your entries to be maintained or replaced by subsequent entries.

  1. Select the News Monitor icon from the REDIPlus Application bar, and the News Monitor appears.

  2. Use one of the methods below to add a symbol(s)/source code(s); an overview of symbol entry methodologies can be found in the Symbols, Symbols, Symbols topic.

To add a single symbol

  1. Click the Symbol field and type a symbol or source code; then press [Enter]. Only news corresponding to the symbol/source code entered appears in the Headlines pane.

  2. Symbols/source codes entered in the Symbol drop-down list box are automatically added to the REDI Symbols List dialog box (see To add multiple symbols, item B).

  1. With the focus not on the Symbol field, type a symbol/source code. The Properties dialog box’s Watch tab appears as soon as you begin typing, and the symbol/source code you are typing is entered in the Enter Symbol field. Click [Add to List], to add the symbol/source code to the Watch List, and repeat this process to add additional symbols and/or source codes; when finished, click [OK].

  2. Symbols/source codes added to the Watch List will be replaced by any symbol /source code subsequently entered in the Symbol drop-down list box.

  1. Click the drop-down arrow on the right of the Symbol drop-down list box, and select a symbol/source code, or select a source code from a New button’s drop-down menu. Only news corresponding to the symbol/source code selected appears in the Headlines pane.

To add multiple symbols

  1. Click the Properties button on the Toolbar OR right-click the News Monitor and select Properties from the shortcut menu, and the Properties dialog box’s Watch tab appears. Type a symbol/source code in the Enter Symbol field, click [Add to List], and the symbol/source code is added to the Watch List. Repeat this process to add additional symbols and/or source codes; when finished, click [OK].

  2. News corresponding to all of the symbols/source codes added to the Watch List appears in the Headlines pane.

  3. Symbols/source codes added to the Watch List will be replaced by any symbol/source code subsequently entered in the Symbol drop-down list box.

  1. You can add multiple symbols/source codes to the Symbol drop-down list. Right-click the Symbol drop-down list box, and the REDI Symbols List dialog box appears. Type a symbol/source code in the Enter Symbol field and click [Add]. Repeat this process to add additional symbols and/or source codes; when finished, click [OK].

  2. Symbols/source codes added to the REDI Symbols List dialog box remain available as long as you are in REDIPlus, and can be saved as part of your Workspace Workspace files capture REDIPlus settings and configurations at the point that you save them, just as if you took a snapshot of REDIPlus.; see the Working with Workspaces topic for more information.

To remove a symbol from the News Monitor

The method you use to remove a symbol/source code from the News Monitor depends on whether you are viewing news corresponding to a single or multiple symbol(s)/source code(s), and in the case of multiple symbols/source codes, whether you want to retain any of them.

  1. Select the News Monitor icon from the REDIPlus Application bar, and the News Monitor appears.

  2. Use one of the methods below to remove a symbol(s)/source code(s).

  1. You can replace all symbols/source codes by entering a symbol/source code in the Symbol drop-down list box.

  2. You can replace all symbols/source codes by selecting one from the Symbol drop-down list box. Click the drop-down arrow on the right of the Symbol drop-down list box, and select a symbol/source code.

  3. You can clear the Headlines and the Full Story panes, and remove a symbol/source code from the Symbol drop-down list. Simply highlight the symbol/source code in the Symbol drop-down list box, and press [Delete].

  4. You can remove individual symbols and/or source codes from the News Monitor (i.e., you can remove a symbol/source code without eliminating others that you want to retain), or you can remove all symbols/source codes on the Watch tab. Click the Properties button on the Toolbar OR right-click the News Monitor and select Properties from the shortcut menu, and the Properties dialog box’s Watch tab appears. Select the symbol/source code from the Watch List that you want to remove, click [Remove], and the symbol/source code is removed from the Watch List. Repeat this process to remove additional symbols and/or source codes, or click [Remove All] to remove all symbols and source codes in a single step. When finished, click [OK].

  5. You can remove symbols/source codes from the Symbol drop-down list. Right-click the Symbol drop-down list box, and the REDI Symbols List dialog box appears. Select the symbol/source code you want to remove from the Symbol list box, and click [Remove]. Repeat this process to remove additional symbols and/or source codes; when finished, click [OK].
